Miguel Merino Viña Jóvenes 2007

  • Pronunciation:

    MIGUEL MERINO VEE-NYA HO-VE-NES

  • Grape:

    Tempranillo & Graciano

  • Region:

    Briones, La Rioja, Spain (DO)

  • Elaboration:

The grapes are harvested by hand in small cases and sorted by skilled female workers on a sorting table. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with frequent pumping overs. There is no over-extraction or post maceration process and in this way, the subtle aromas and flavours of the grape are preserved. The wine is the aged for 12 months in barrels consisting of American oak staves and French oak bottoms with rackings every 6 months. Barrels used for aging have been used once before for the aging Miguel Merino Reservas so that the oak is ‘pre-marinated’ and does not overpower but rather enhances, the fruit flavours and mineral qualities of the terroir. Barrels are topped every 12 weeks to minimize oxidation.

  • Taste:

A modern rendition of a Rioja classic, this is a lighter, cleaner style Crianza with good fruit concentration and pleasing floral characteristics. Red berry fruits and cherries abound on the palate layered with spices , gentle oaky tones and a silky minerality derived from calcerous soils of the Briones region. Round bodied and smooth with well balanced tannins leading to a long pleasant finish.

  • Service:

Chill for 10 minutes before serving to achieve the perfect temperature for appreciating this wine with red meat, game, rustic bean, pork and chorizo stews and hard cheeses like Manchego.
